Insight 5: Everything has True Nature
Previously, we learnt that True Nature cannot be conceptualized and is hence, ineffable and unthinkable. True Nature is not this physical body of yours. Since True Nature is not in this physical body, it is everywhere and in everything. Once awakened, you will understand that even the most ordinary thing can be used to express True Nature.
There is a universal mind â Everything is made out of mind. Our thoughts take birth, change and pass away, donât they? So do clouds, organisms, ecosystems, fossils, machineries, ideas, diamonds and even stars. These things are all pebble ripples inside the infinite mind.
What is subject to change cannot be True Nature. However, this also implies that True Nature is universal. True Nature is not something that is held within the boundary of a self. It extends to all beings, to infinite worlds and to infinite dimensions.
The most ordinary thing can be used to express True Nature. How so?
As long a thing is conceptualized, it generates a boundary and two polarities of existence and non-existence. Everything rises and falls, vibrates and is in constant fluctuation in a cyclical rhythm. Everything is a domino, caused by the falling of another domino. Everything is constantly being born, changing and dying. To realize True Nature is to rise out of these conditions of birth, changing and death.
To say oneself is True Nature is wrong understanding. Similarly, to proclaim that âI am Godâ is a half-truth, a mirror-representative. That is because the notion of a self is already a thought. Thoughts are not True Nature. Thoughts are simply called thoughts. They are illusory and fantasy-constructed, just like the spray-painted boundary you drew on the infinite grass field. To say our skin is the boundary between oneself and âoutside oneselfâ is to conceptualize a self.
True Nature is eternal. It does not take birth, change or pass away. Thoughts are ripples that take form, change and pass away. Hence, any kind of thought cannot be True Nature.
